A court in Gazipur has sentenced seven people to death for the 2011 murder of businessman Milon Bhuiyan.
Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque announced the verdict on Monday in presence of seven convicts.
The death row convicts are Hossain Ali, 27, Razeeb Hossain Raju, 22, Kaiyum, 25, Mohammad Ali alias Choto Ali, 20, Md Razzeb Hossain, 22, Farooq Hossain, 25 and Shafiqul Islam Parvez, 26.
The eighth convict, Masum alias Mama Masum has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The court acquitted two others — Enamul Haque and Shamsul Haque — as the charges against them were not proven beyond doubt.
In the evening on Feb 26, 2011, Milon Bhuiyan was hacked at the entrance of the Bhawal National Park gate in Gazipur. Soon after the attack, his relatives rushed him to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
The family filed a case with the Joydebpur Police Station. Ten people were charged in the court after the police filed its investigation report.
On Monday, the court convicted eight people and acquitted two others.
