Local Jubo Mohila League leader’s son and his associates allegedly tried to rape a female readymade garment worker in Savar. The incident took place at South Bupaile area of Ashulia on Sunday night, said police.

Four youths have been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrestees are Ashulia Thana Jubo Mohila League convener Najma Akhter’ s son Nakib Mia (20), Al Amin (20), Naimur Rahman Durjoy and Faruk Hossain (22).

Witnesses say that Nakib and his accomplices abducted a woman from Uttar Gazirchat area in Ashulia on Sunday evening. Nearby people and pedestrians tried to stop them but were assaulted by the perpetrators.

Later, the victim was taken away in a flat and the culprits tried to rape her. Hearing the screams of the victim, locals came to her rescue, rounded up the culprits and handed them over to the police.

Ashulia police sub-Inspector Murad Hossian said, “Four people have been held in connection with attempt to rape of an RMG worker.”

“Victim’s husband has filed a complaint under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act,” he added.

The husband Rabiul Islam said, “Al Amin and his cohorts had been harassing my wife for some time; they abducted her on Sunday evening when she was out of our north Gazirchat residence.”

“I didn’t submit any complaint fearing reprisals, as one of them is the son of a political leader.”

Locals say that Nakib and his acolytes are involved in drug trade plus other unlawful activities in the area.
