An Awami League leader has filed a case against Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sohel Parvez and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shahrin Ferdousi of Sonagazi in Feni in connection with damaging a dredging machine.
Upazila Awami League President and leaseholder of local sand estate Md Ruhul Amin filed the case on Wednesday with the district’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Zakir Hossain’s court.
The court ordered a probe into the incident.
The plaintiff alleged in his case that the defendants damaged a dredger he kept at the upazila’s Chardarbesh sand estate after securing lease from the district administration to extract sand.
On Aug 27, Parvez and Ferdousi went to the sand estate and cut the electricity connection of the dredger machine and instructed the labours working there to damage the machine, reads the case.
It goes on to say, they paid no heed to people telling them that the plaintiff was lawful leaseholder of the estate and poured salt and sugar into the machine to make the dredger obsolete.
Amin pleaded before the court that the defendant’s actions caused financial loss in the amount of approximately Tk 2.2 millions which is a punishable offence.
According to Amin, Feni’s Revenue Collector issued him a work order allowing him to dredge sand from Pohela Boishakh to Chaitra 30, 1425 Bengali year.
