No eye doctor has been appointed at Rajbari Sadar Hospital for four years.
Patients with eye problems go back from the hospital without getting any treatment.
They face more sufferings when they have to dig deep into their pockets pay a high fees in private clinics where the doctors comes from nearby districts.
Hospital's administrative office says, the post for an ‘eye specialist’ has been vacant since November 3, 2014.
More than three and half years have been passed, health ministry did not sent any doctors to fill up the vacant post though there is repeated persuasion from the hospital authorities.
Recently, the hospital authorities hanged a poster in the ticket counter notifying that there is no eye specialist in the hospital.
Abdul Gafur, 56-year-old patient found at the hospital ticket counter, told Bangla Tribune that he had eye-sight problem for last few days but here no doctor is available.
“Now I have to pay at least Tk 500 for the doctors in the private clinics,” Gafur added.
Another patient Halima Begum, 60, said, “I travelled a long way from village to consult with an eye specialist, but no doctor is available at Rajbari Sadar Hospital.”
Sixty-year-old Sorifun Bibi said, “I have already come here for several times for my eye diseases but all the departments have the doctor’s except an eye specialist.”
Md Korban Hossain, an official at Rajbari Sadar Hospital ticket counter said, “About 100 patients come here with their eye problems but doctor is not available for last few years.”
Rajbari Sadar Hospital administrative head Dr Swapan Kumar Kundu said,” The hospital authorities send letters every month to the ministry for an eye specialist. We are eagerly waiting for the decision from the Health ministry.”
