‘Shootouts’ kill three in three districts

Separate ‘gunfights’ have killed two ‘drug-peddlers’ in Gazipur and Natore and a ‘bandit’ in Barguna, said the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The incident in Gazipur was reported from Tongi around 3:30am Tuesday when an alleged drug-peddler Sharif, 30, was killed in a shootout, claimed RAB officials.
RAB-1 Major Istiaque Ahmed said, “We conducted a raid on a tip-off at the Prattasha Math of Tongi. RAB officers retaliated when hooligans opened fired on us. Sharif, a drug-peddler, was killed in the shootout.”
“Firearms with four rounds bullets, yaba and phensidyl were recovered from the scene,” Ahmed added.
In Natore, a drug-peddler Meher Ali was killed in a shootout at 2:30am Tuesday, said Azmal Hossain, Company Commander (In charge), district RAB office.
He said that a RAB patrol team came under attack when a group of people open fired at them at their call to surrender. RAB retaliated and a gunfight ensued for about five minutes.
At the end of the gunfight, one was found injured while the rest managed to flee. The injured was identified as Meher Ali, who was pronounced dead when taken to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex.
Two RAB officers were injured in the gunfight, Hossain added.
He also said that, three active bullet rounds, a magazine, 160 pieces yaba tablets, 62 bottles of phensidyls, Tk 462, two charger torch-lights, five sandals, a gas-light, a cell phone and a SIM card were recovered from the scene.
Police in Patharghata Upazila, Barguna reported another incident of ‘gunfight’ where Md. Rafiqur, 40, was killed.
RAB seized some firearms during the ‘gunfight’, said Patharghata OC Mollah Mohammad Khabir.
RAB said that, Rafiqur was a member of Bandit group Noa.
