Allegation of extortion against Roumari BCL leader

General Secretary of Roumari BCL Salman Farsi TusharRuling party leaders of Kurigram’s Roumari Upazila has alleged that local Chatra League leader Salman Farsi Tushar is involved in criminal activities including extortion and land grabbing.
Tushar, the General Secretary of Roumari of the student wing of Awami League, however denied all allegations raised against him.
Local BCL leaders are alleging that Tushar has been carrying out criminal activities with a team he formed. They have orchestrated many attacks in the Upazila’s Isakuri, Shoulmari and Baitmari village to grab home, land and ponds. There are numerous allegations of eve teasing against him as well.
Roumari CL president Sohel Rana said, “Recently (Aug 20) Tushar and his aides have launched an armed attack on local Awami and Chatra League leaders including Upazila Awami League President and former MP Zakir Hosain, GS Rejaul Islam Minu and Raju Ahmed Khoka.”
A Chatra League member Mondol Mia, 24, was injured when he tried to protect Zakir, he said adding, Roumari Union AL president Khoka filed a case in the connection.
Former MP Zakir said, “He had the audacity to attack me. So, you can imagine what the general people are going through.”
“There’s no place for such a criminal in Awami League during the current administration,” he added.
Tushar claimed that these allegations are untrue and nothing but conspiracies to ruin his political career.
He said, “If there’s any evidence of these allegations, I’ll humbly accept any punishment whatsoever.”
Regarding the attack on Former MP Zakir, he claimed it was not his people who did that, rather he and his office was attacked.
Tushar said, “When we asked an AL leader to pay back the money he owed, they attacked me and my people. They also vandalized my office. They even destroyed Bangabandhu’s picture.”
Kurigram District CL president Rokibuzzaman Rakib said that they are aware of the situation.
He said, “We’ll form a committee soon and investigate the allegations. We will take steps once allegations are found to be true.”
Rakib also said, the Chatra League Committee of Roumari had expired a while ago.
“We will soon take steps to form a new one,” he added.
