The Jatiya Party has announced that it would form a new policymaking body on top of its Presidium.
Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga made the announcement during a meeting at the party’s Banani offices on Saturday (Sept 14), when he said the new panel would consist of ‘senior members’.
“There would be a lot of changes in the coming days. A lot of new people will join us. If needed, we will raise the number of presidium members over a hundred,” he said before adding the new policymaking Steering Committee will have 21 members.
“I have nothing to gain or lose. Ershad had ousted me thrice. I am ready to step down as the secretary general any time if that’s what the party workers want,” Ranga told the meeting organized by the party’s Dhaka Divisional Organising Committee.
Speaking at the meeting, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader said, “Many anticipated that the Jatiya Party will split following Ershad’s death ... There had been some brief spell of misunderstanding within us.”
Jatiya Party will complete its councils for district units before its national council slated for Dec 21, said Quader.
“We have already formed committees for divisional units, which will form district unit committees,” he said.
