The BNP has called for an emergency meeting over the freeze the court imposed on the upcoming council of its student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

The party leadership including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will sit with the council committee on Friday (Sept 13), BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan told Bangla Tribune.

On Thursday (Sept 12), the court issued a temporary injunction on JCD’s sixth national council scheduled to be held on Saturday (Sept 14) after 28 years.

Dhaka's fourth senior assistant judge court also show-caused 10 BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul asking why a permanent injunction would not be imposed.

In a media call later in the day, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the freeze was "a conspiracy hatched by the government."

He termed the case filed by Md Aman Ullah Aman, a former assistant religious affairs secretary of JCD, as “illogical.”

Meanwhile, BNP leader Fazlul Haque Milon said that Aman was “forced to file a case and is victim of a conspiracy.”

“We are unable to reach Aaman. We think he has been forced to do it that way people are remanded,” he had said.

Sources within the party said that BNP leaders are shocked with the whole thing, especially since the party moved forward with the council at the order of acting chief Tarique Rahman.

They said that Mirza Fakhrul will brief the media on the party’s next move after the meeting on Friday.
