Chhatra Dal grassroots level workers have got a chance to vote a leader after 28 years and they want to see a considerate and worker-friendly leader at the top. But, there is a concern if proper leadership can be elected or not, sidelining a syndicate which has developed over three decades.
The Chhatra Dal president and general secretary will be elected by 566 councillors who have said that those who remained by the party through thick and thin, played a role in street movements and will give the pledge to free Khaleda Zia, will be elected.
Chhatra Dal president of Chattogram University, Khurshedul Alam, said: “We will give importance to three factors, educational qualification, personality and the devotion to the party.”
‘We are getting a chance to vote after a long time and therefore, want to choose a leader free from any external pressure.”
Barishal district Chhatra Dal president, Mahfuzul Alam Mithu, observed: “We will vote those who were on the road in the past and those who make a commitment to be on the road in the future.”

The last Chhatra Dal council was held in 1991 which brought Ilias Ali and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to the committee leadership. But the committee was dissolved by Khaleda Zia on accusations of its involvement in controversial activities.
As per rule, lobbying for votes on behalf of a candidate is strictly prohibited though there are allegations that underhand vote soliciting is going on.
Convener of the appeal committee, formed for the Chhatra Dal council, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, said: “We have warned everyone at the meeting against lobbying.”
Meanwhile, Dhaka court issued a temporary injunction blocking the council after Md Aman Ullah Aman a former JCD leader filed a case seeking a permanent injunction on Thursday (Sept 24).
The sixth council of the JCD was scheduled to be held on Sept 14 to form its new leadership.
The court also issued a show-cause notice to 10 BNP leaders including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asking why a permanent injunction would not be imposed and asked them to respond within seven days.
