BNP to hold roundtable talks on human rights violation

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)The BNP has decided to organise a roundtable discussion on what it says ongoing gross violation of human rights in the county.
National Standing Committee Member Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday that the event has been scheduled for (Thursday) Jul 12 at a hotel in Dhaka’s Gulshan.
Sources in the party’s policymaking Standing Committee said that the discussion will emphasise the recent attacks on students demanding reforms to quotas in public service and the extrajudicial killings in the ongoing crackdown on drugs.
The discussion will be attended by diplomats and people from all walks of life, including teachers, intellectuals and members of the civil society. Representatives of political parties are also expected to join.
A keynote article will be presented in the discussion, according to a senior party leader.
“A paper will be presented followed by open discussion. Ambassadors have been invited as well as members of the civil society,” a Standing Committee member told Bangla Tribune.
BNP Vice-Chairman Inam Ahmed Chowdhury, who is a member of the party’s diplomatic corps, said, “The major human rights violations will be discussed in the event.”
