Family members of BNP chief Khaleda Zia spent two hours with her in Nazimuddin road old jail on eid day.
A total of 20 members went there with food, new clothes and flowers. They entered the jail premises at 2:15pm while left at 4:15 in the afternoon.
Her Family members include elder sister Selima Islam, brother Shameen Eskanser, sister-in-law Kaniz Fatema and her son Avee Eskander and nephew Mamun.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day BNP leaders left jail as they were denied permission to meet her.
A group of BNP senior leaders led by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir headed for the central jail at capital’s Nazim Uddin road around 12:15pm.
Police blocked the BNP leaders away from the jail gate after they had reached.
“Our leader is jailed illegally. Three days back we gave a prayer to meet her but still we didn’t get the permission. Prisoners are allowed to meet on Eid day”, said Mirza Fakhrul.
The former prime minister is serving a five-year term since Feb 8, when a Dhaka court convicted her of embezzling foreign donations made to the Zia Orphanage Trust.
