The BNP has convened a meeting of its senior leaders on Friday.
Members of the policymaking National Standing Committee have been told to join the meeting at the chairperson’s Gulshan offices at 4pm, a senior leader told Bangla Tribune.
According to the leader, the meeting has been convened on instructions of Tarique Rahman, who stands for his mother Khaleda Zia following her conviction for graft.
BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique, who has been living in London since 2008, now serves as the acting chairman.
The meeting is expected to discuss on the health condition of jailed Chairperson Khaleda and on prospects of a movement for her release before the Eid, according to a BNP Standing Committee member, who asked not to be named.
He added that Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir may brief the media following the meeting.
Sources in the BNP say the meeting may also discuss on a pre-election coalition with opposition parties.
