Khgaleda has no alternative to candle, hand-fanThere is no generator at the place where BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been kept in the old central jail. There is no alternative to candle and makeshift hand-fan when electricity goes off. Such heartless inhuman treatment is unparallel.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the allegation at a press briefing held at the party’s Naya Paltan central office on Wednesday noon.
He said, “Family members met Khaleda Zia on Tuesday. They found her so sick that she wasn’t being able to walk properly. Every night she suffers from fever.”
“When we were in jail, the electricity never went off; because there were generators all the time. Now, the place where Khaleda Zia has been kept falls under no definition of jail. She is not getting the rights she deserves as a first class prisoner.”
Citing that prisoners with division enjoy many benefits in jail, the BNP leader said, “We also enjoyed that, but Khaleda Zia is not being allowed. Her family members cannot take anything for her from outside.”
He also said, “The jail authorities sent an application to the home ministry for her treatment. The home ministry had sent the application to the Prime Minister since long, but she (PM) has not given any decision yet. Many from home and abroad have requested her (PM) for arranging Khaleda Zia’s treatment but in vain.”
Senior BNP leaders, among others, also attended the briefing.
