BNP`s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. File PhotoThere is no logical reason to increase the gas prices, commented BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The prices are being hiked a hundred percent to make corruption easier and it’s an illegal and inhuman step, he told the media on Friday (Mar 15) at the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan.
Claiming that industrial development will be hindered by the move, Rizvi said, “The employment sector will be affected too. There’s a shortage of jobs as it is.
He added that it will give rise to unemployment and in addition to that public transports will hike their fares making life difficult.
Rizvi said that the gas prices have been hiked six times during the last 10 years.
He complained that it costs more to import Liquefied Natural Gas to Bangladesh and alleged that the extra money was going in the pockets of dishonest people.
“The increase in price will create an opportunity for those in power to carry out unrestrained corruption.”
The senior leader said that the government has to put a stop to increasing gas prices or else there will be strong movements on the streets.
