FILE PHOTO/Syed Zakir HossainBNP’s policymaking National Standing Committee has reportedly slammed the Jatiya Oikya Front and Jamaat-e-Islami, a long time ally of the BNP.
In a recent meeting of the party’s top body, some leaders said that they must be careful that their political activities do not stay limited within the Jatiya Oikya Front, the Dr Kamal Hossain-led alliance.
On the issue of Jamaat, many have expressed the view that the party has become a burden on them.
The meeting, which took place at the party chief’s Gulshan office on Wednesday (Mar 13), was attended by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman via skype.
A BNP leader, requesting to go unnamed, said, “The two and a half hours meeting discussed Khaleda Zia’s health condition, her refusal to move to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical Hospital and the recent DUCSU polls.”
According to him, two leaders slammed the Jatiya Oikya Front in the meeting.
“They said that BNP’s politics have been inclined to the Oikya Front. We must come out of that trend. We have to increase our capabilities,” he said adding that Tarique didn’t say anything in response to that.
Questions were raised if the formation of Oikya Front was the right move.
Members in the meeting also slammed Sultan Mohammad Mansur taking oath after he won with the Oikya Front’s ticket and ditched the front’s decision and joined the parliament.
According to two standing committee members, the meeting discussed about Jamaat.
Some said that It was Khaleda Zia, who formed the alliance, so she must be the one to decide. While others said, Jamaat is a burden for BNP. If they do not want to leave by themselves, they should be pushed aside.
However, all the top leaders agreed on freeing Khaleda to be their top priority.
Although Tarique Rahman didn’t say much in the meeting, he instructed to increase communication with the district level leader, added the sources.
