Upazila polls candidates will be chosen cautiously: Quader

“We have all kinds of mechanisms in place to ensure that the person who gets the party ticket is popular with the people,” he said on Monday (Feb 5) at the AL president’s office in Dhanmondi.
“Allegations of irregularity might arise as someone might be disappointed if they don’t get nomination,” he added.
Quader said that they have internal mechanisms to looks into the matter.
He said that vying for a nomination was not a crime as many had risen to the ranks of leader from activists after much persecution.
“Everyone may aspire for a party ticket but we will not give nomination outside the post of chairman and two vice chairmen; one male and one female.”
Responding to queries about the sale of nomination form sale being open, he said, “We have made purchase of nomination form open as buying a form does not mean getting the party ticket.”
Talking about BNP not taking part in the polls, the road, transport and bridges minister said that they were not completely out of the game as many had collected nomination forms.
“They can collect forms as independent candidates.”
The Upazila council elections are set to begin in March. It will be administered in several phases and for the first time the polls are taking place in party lines.
