Aspirants on Awami League ticket in 258 seats

FOCUS BANGLAThe ruling Awami League has fielded its party’s candidates in 258 constituencies for the 11th parliamentary election leaving 42 seats for parties in the Grand Alliance and the 14-party Alliance, the two coalitions it leads.

On Sunday (Dec 9), when the Election Commission’s deadline for withdrawing nominations ended, the party submitted a letter detailing the seat-sharing among allies.
HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party, which is a part of the Grand Alliance, has been given 26 seats while the other ally in the coalition AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury’s Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh got three seats for its candidates.
The parties in the AL-led 14-party Alliance have got 13 seats — five for Workers Party of Bangladesh led by Rashed Khan Menon, three for Hasanul Haq Inu-led JaSoD faction, two each for Jatiya Party JP (Monju) and Tarikat Federation while one for Shuruf Nurul Ambia-led JaSoD faction.
Earlier in the day, Ershad’s Jatiya Party announced to contest 29 seats under Grand Alliance and to run 132 candidates separate from the coalition.
However, according to the list submitted to the Commission by Awami League, Jatiya Party’s seats under the Grand Alliance are 26.
