Five days after replacing ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader with Mashiur Rahman Ranga as the secretary general, Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad on Saturday (Dec 8 ) appointed Howlader as his special assistant.
In a statement sent to the media, Ershad said that Howlader will act as the “second man of the party” and will be responsible for the “overall organisational activities” in absence of the party chief.
Howlader is also a member of the party’s policymaking Presidium.
On Dec 3, Howlader was removed from his position and replaced by Presidium Member Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga.
A letter sent to Ranga then from the party’s letterhead from Ershad said, “We are appointing you as the secretary general to the Jatiya Party. You will take on the duties in addition to those as a member of the party’s Presidium.”
The former military dictator, who is now a special envoy to the PM, however, did not provide an explanation of why Howlader has been removed from the post.
Ershad had appointed Howlader as secretary general in 2001 after Anwar Hossain Manju split from the party.
Howlader was removed from the post in 2013 amid power plays within the party, but he was reinstated in 2016 before once again removed five days ago.
