Khaleda to move court to get nominations reinstated. Nashirul Islam/FILE PHOTOBNP chief Khaleda Zia, now in jail for corruption, will move the High Court against the Election Commission’s decisions to reject her nominations filed for three constituencies.
“We have written to the Commission seeking a certified copy of the orders. We have been told it will be available on Sunday when we will file a petition with the High Court,” her counsel Kaisar Kamal told Bangla Tribune.
On Saturday (Dec 8), the Commission rejected all three appeals of the former prime minister against the rejection of her nominations for Feni-1, Bogura-6 and Bogura-7 seats.
The commission came up with the decision this evening after holding the hearing on her appeals challenging the rejection of nomination papers by the returning officers during scrutiny.
Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder voted in favour of giving back her candidature. On the other hand, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and four other commissioners gave their decision against her candidature.
After the hearing, EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmad said all the three appeals of Khaleda have been turned down by 4-1 votes.
Earlier during scrutiny, the returning officers rejected Khaleda Zia’s nomination papers saying that she violated section 12 (1) (d) of the RPO, which deals with electoral offences but Khaleda Zia was convicted on the charge of corruption.
