Former OC of Feni’s Sonagazi police Moazzem Hossain.

Suspended police Inspector Moazzem Hossain had recorded Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement of sexual harassment on his mobile phone, said investigators.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), however, didn’t find proof of the former Sonagazi police station OC of leaking the video in social media, PBI Deputy Inspector General Bonoj Kumar Majumder said on Sunday (May 26).

“We have already submitted the probe report in the court. It has been confirmed that it was OC Moazzem videotaped Nusrat on his phone and gave it to one Sajal, who may have uploaded it on the social media,” he said.

He added that Moazzem’s claims of not leaking the video has been and that PIB has  found the allegations in the case documents to be partially true.

On Apr 15 Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed a lawsuit against Moazzem accusing him of dillydallying in taking Nusrat’s case and recording her statement on the phone.

The case was filed under section 26, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act and the court instructed the PBI to investigate the matter.

DIG Kumar said that they have also received the CID lab reports which found traces of kerosene in Nusrat’s clothes which will be helpful for the case.

Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa in, was set ablaze on Apr 6 for refusing to withdraw sexual abuse charges against now suspended principal Siraj Ud Daula.

After battling critical burn injuries for five days, the 18-year-old died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Apr 10.

Most of the suspects are now behind the bars with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally assuring that every single person involved in Nusrat’s murder would be brought to book.
