The High Court will give its decision on plea, challenging the legality of shifting BNP chief Khaleda Zia from hospital to jail on Monday (Nov 19).

The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil fixed the date on Sunday (Nov 18) after hearing the plea. Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda while the state was represented by additional attorney general Murad Reza.

On Nov 11, Khaleda’s counsel, Nowshad Jamir, filed the plea, naming nine defendants including foreign secretary, prison authorities and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) authorities.

On Oct 4, the High Court ordered to shift Khaleda to hospital after hearing another writ, seeking the BNP chief’s treatment in a specialised facility.

Following high court’s order, she was taken to BSMMU on Oct 6.

Khaleda had been admitted there until Nov 8 when she was shifted back to the old Dhaka jailhouse. A three-time premier, Khaleda is serving a 10 year sentence since Feb 8 after a court found her guilty of embezzling funds meant for the Zia Orphanage Trust.
