NSI (National Security Intelligence) have seized 985gs of New Psychotropic Substance (NPS), also known as ‘khat’, at the Dhaka airport.
On a tip off, NSI men seized the kind of narcotic, also known as 'khat', from the foreign post office on Sunday (Nov 18).
An airport official said that 53 cartons containing the illegal substance came in an Air India flight from Eheopia. Security officials kept the boxes under watch as they became suspicious about its content, which was later found to be NPS when opened in presence of personnel from various agencies.
The seized narcotic will be handed over to the Department of Narcotics Control, added the official.
Sunday’s haul of NPS was the 8th consignment confiscated at the Shahjalal International Airport.
On Friday (Nov 16), NSI seized 870 kgs of the same narcotic which came in an Air India flight from Ethiopia as well.
