Addressing the Awami League-organised reception for her, party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that all she wants is to serve the people of Bangladesh.
“I work for the people. My only concern is what they got. I feel fortunate of being the daughter of the Father of the Nation,” she said.
Fulfilling the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman — building a prosperous Bangladesh, is her only aim, Hasina said.
The party organised the reception to honour its leader for her contributions to the government’s achievements, including the launch of Bangabandhu-1 satellite, Bangladesh’s graduation to a developing nation from a least developed one.
The prime minister reached the venue at 3:30 pm.
Clad in colourful T-shirts and caps, supporters have also come in from outside Dhaka and have gathered in various points of the capital near Shahbag, Doyel Chattar and the Matsya Bhaban amid festivity.
The programme, which started at 3 pm, is being presided by Awami League Presidium member and Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury.
