Awami League chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arrived at the Suhrawrady Udyan to attend the reception organised by the ruling party.
Her motorcade arrived at the venue around 3:30pm.
The party has organised the reception to honour Hasina for her contributions in the government’s achievements, including the launch of Bangabandhu-1 satellite, Bangladesh’s graduation to a developing nation from a least developed one.
The programme, which started at 3 pm, is being presided by Awami League Presidium member and Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury.
Sheikh Hasina's son and her ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy is likely to be present on the occasion.
Clad in colourful T-shirts and caps, supporters have also come in from outside Dhaka and have gathered in various points of the capital near Shahbag, Doyel Chattar and the Matsya Bhaban amid festivity.
