Ruling Awami League supporters streamed to the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan for the reception of party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The party has organised the reception to honour Hasina for her contributions in the government’s achievements, including the launch of Bangabandhu-1 satellite, Bangladesh’s graduation to a developing nation from a least developed one.
The Awami League expects a crowd of at least 300,000 for the reception.
The programme will start at 3 pm presided by Awami League Presidium member and Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury. Sheikh Hasina's son and her ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy is likely to be present on the occasion.
Clad in colourful T-shirts and caps, supporters have also come in from outside Dhaka and have gathered in various points of the capital near Shahbag, Doyel Chattar and the Matsya Bhaban amid festivity.
