REUTERSJanaja of five Bangladeshis, who were killed in a terrorist attack in Christchurch last Friday, was held on Friday (Mar 22).

In the morning, Janaza of Bangladeshi citizens Omar Faruq, Mozammel and Zakaria Bhuiyan was held while after Jumma, funeral prayer of Bangladeshi-origin New Zealand citizens Dr Samad and Husne Ara Parveen was held.

Deputy chief of Bangladesh mission in Canberra Tareq Ahmad said, a large number of people including Bangladeshis attended the janaja.

“Not only from Christchurch, people from other cities also attended the funeral prayers programme,” he said.

After the prayer, the relatives of Dr Samad and Parveen have taken the bodies to complete the burial process, he said.

The dead bodies of the rest three were kept in a funeral home, he said.

When asked about when the bodies would be repatriated, he said, “We have issued no objection certificates and expect that very soon we will be able to send them back.”

Wife of Zakaria Bhuiyan is now in New Zealand and brother of Mozammel Haque will reach on Saturday (Mar 23) while wife of Omar Faruq has already got visa and she would fly in a convenient time, he said.

An Australian named Brenton Tarrant, has been charged for killing 50 people and injuring 48 people with gun attacks on worshippers in two mosques in Christchurch on Mar 15.. Five people of Bangladesh origin died and three were injured in the gun attack.
