Ruling MP and transport workers’ leader Shajahan Khan has defended drivers saying they can’t be held responsible solely for road accidents.

“Accidents happen.... “ said the former minister, who heads a high-level panel formed last month to advise the government on measures to bring order on the roads and the transport sector.
Speaking to the media after a meeting of the panel on Thursday, he said the death of a university student in Dhaka after being run over by a bus was ‘unfortunate’.
“No one would object if those responsible for the death are brought to justice,” he said.
Khan said the panel he heads had visited several locations before mulling on measures to curb road crashes.
They have come up with a set of recommendations, which will be submitted to the government on Apr 8, he added.
