Vice president-elect of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) came under attack on the campus on Tuesday (Mar 12), a day after the polls.
Alleged activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists chased him soon after he arrived at the Teacher-Student Centre.
The opposition activists were parading for a re-election to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), when the incident took place around 2:00pm.
Following the chase, running battles broke out between BCL activists and activist of pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
The protesters were seen attacking each other with batons.
Several television channels showed live feed of chases and counter chases among the protesters and the attackers. Some of them appeared to be injured in the ensuing clash.
A BCL hall unit leader, however, claimed that DUCSU VP-elect Nur and some others attacked him.
“Nur, the JCD’s general secretary candidate Anisur Rahman Khandaker Anik attacked me,” Ferdous Alam, a leader of the Suryasen Hall BCL, told Bangla Tribune.
JCD’s Anik denied the allegations. “The BCL attacked us.”
VP-elect Nur’s supporters echoed.
“BCL activists pounced on us at the TSC. Leaving several of us injured,” Faruk Hossain, a friend of Nur, told Bangla Tribune.
