The polls to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and residential hall unions have been held in line with the regulations, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said on Tuesday (Mar 12) ruling out the possibility of a re-election.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, a day after the polls, he said, “The students have given their mandate and it is not possible to make another decision about re-election based on anyone’s demand.”
Responding to a query, the VC said he will not officially brief the media over the elections, held after a long gap of 28 years.
His statement comes amid all participating panels demanding a re-election to DUCSU rejecting the results.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has denounced the VP-elect quota reformist leader Nurul Haque Nur, demanding a re-election to this post.
The other major panels of leftists, quota reformists and independents are demanding a re-election alleging irregularities of the election. They are also demanding the VC’s removal.
