Lawmakers to the seats reserved for women in the 11th National Parliament took oath to their offices on Wednesday.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the ceremony at the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad.

The Speaker first administered the oath to the elected MPs of the ruling Awami League and then MPs of Jatiya Party.

On Sunday, the Election Commission published an official gazette with the names of 49 elected candidates for the parliamentary seats reserved exclusively for women.

Of them, 43 elected women MPs are from ruling Awami League, four from Jatiya Party, one from Workers’ Party and another is independent.

The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion with their number of seats in parliament. Accordingly, 43 seats are allotted to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one apiece for BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront, Workers’ Party and independent candidates.

Deputy Speaker Advocate Md Fazle Rabbi Miah, Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Whips Md Atiur Rahman Atik, Panchanan Biswas, Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury and Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon were present at the ceremony, reports BSS.

The 43 MPs of Awami League are, Suborna Mustafa, Shirin Ahmed, Zannatul Bakia, Shabnam Jahan Shila, Nahid Ijhar Khan, Khadizatul Anwar, Waseqa Ayesha Khanam, Kaniz Fatema Ahmed, Basonti Chakma, Anjum Sultana, Aroma Dutta, Umme Fatema Nazma Begum, Shamsunnahar Bhuyian, Rumana Ali, Sultana Nadira, Hosne Ara, Habiba Rahman Khan, Zakia Parvin Khanam, Sheikh Ani Rahman, Aporajita Haque, Shamima Akter Khanam, Fazilatun Nessa, Rabeya Ali, Tamanna Nusrat Bubly, Nargis Rahman, Monira Sultana, Khaleda Khanam, Syeda Rubina Mira, Kazi Kaniz Sultana, Gloria Jharna Sarker, Khondoker Mamata Hena Lovely, Syeda Zohra Alauddin, Rushema Begum, Zakia Tabassum, Farida Khanam (Saki), Syeda Rashida Begum, Adiba Anjum Mita, Ferdousi Islam Jessy, Parvin Haque Shikder, Khudeza Nasrin Akhter Hossain, Tahmina Begum, Nadia Yasmin Joly and Ratna Ahmed.

The four MPs of Jatiya Party are, Salma Islam, Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Raushon Ara Mannan, and Nazma Akter.

Lutfun Nesa Khan will be representing Workers’ Party of Bangladesh while Selina Islam will be the independent MP to the reserved seats.

The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion with their number of seats in parliament. Accordingly, 43 seats are allotted to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one apiece for BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront, Workers’ Party and independent candidates.
