Austria supports EU move to resolve Rohingya crisis

Austria FM media briefForeign Minister AK Abdul Momen and his Austrian counterpart Karin Kneissl during a joint media briefing afte the talks on Wednesday (Feb 20) in Dhaka.Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said Myanmar is a destination country of number of investors including state investors and they must work together to resolve crisis like Rohingyas.
“They all have to work together in order to create the legal and social backbone of the country, but also handling domestic crisis, such as Rohingya crisis,” she told the media in Dhaka one Wednesday after talks with her Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen.
About support to Rohingya crisis, she said, as a member of the European Union, there was a series of calls to solve the crisis and it can only be a common effort.
She said Austria also welcomed highest number of refugees per capita and they have full understanding of the burden it has on the society and state authority.
About economic relations, she said there would be a business roundtable and Austrian businesses want to invest in Bangladesh from construction to medicine, skills development and education.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Momen told the media briefing that Bangladesh needs lots of investment and technology transfer and Austria will help the country as a partner.
“They have come here to help us out as a partner,” he said adding, “Austria has agreed to help Bangladesh in skill development.”
