‘Outlawed party leader’ killed in Rajbari ‘shootout’

ShootoutA suspected top leader of outlawed ‘Purba Banglar Communist Party-Lal Pataka’ was killed in a reported shootout with police at in Pangsha Upazila on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Lalon Hawladar, second-in-command of ‘Lal Pataka’, a faction of the outlawed.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area, said Fazlul Karim, senior assistant superintendent of Rajbari police (Pangsha circle).
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the outlawed members opened fire, forcing them to fire back for self-defence, he added.
At one point, police found the body of Lalon, who was named in several cases, from the scene.
Police also recovered two firearms and six cartridges from the spot.
