A fisherman has died while another is missing after a sand-loaded vessel hit a fishing boat on the Bhairab River in Khulna.
The incident was reported at the early hours of Saturday from the banks of the river in the metropolitan city’s Dualtpur, said police.
Thirty-six- year-old Shubhas Chandra Roy’s body has been recovered from the river while 45-year-old Ananda Biswas remains missing, said Daulatpur police OC Kazi Mostak Ahmed.
“The boat was anchored and the men were sleeping on it, when the vessel hit it causing it to overturn. The sand-loaded vessel managed to flee,” he said.
The fire service along with the local fishermen launched a rescue operation soon after.
“The body of one Shubhash Chandra Roy has been recovered while divers are searching for the other man who was on the boat,” Station Officer Md Kaimuzzaman of the local fire service said.
