Locals at a Bogra village have handed over two people to police for vandalizing idols.
The incident was reported from the northern district’s Sonatala Upazila on Friday, said police.
The perpetrators have been identified as Thandu Mia, 28 and Dolar Khan, 35, said Sonatala Police OC Shariful Islam.
“The suspects were among the people, who wanted to extort money from the temple authorities. They have been sent to jail. And raids are on to nab the others. Police will start a case as the Hindu community is reluctant to file one,” said the police officer.
Locals said that local Hindu community was holding an annual event, when Thandu Mia along and his accomplices demanded money from the temple authorities.
Armed with local weapons, the perpetrators vandalised the temple as well as the idols after being refused. Locals managed to the duo before handing them over to police.
