A suspect has been stabbed to death by another suspect of a murder case in front of a judge in Cumilla.
The incident occurred in front of Additional District and Sessions Judge Fatema Ferdous around 11am Monday (Jul 15).
The deceased has been identified as Faruk.
The incident occurred around 11:30am on Monday (Jul 15) when suspect Hasan stabbed Faruk at the Cumilla District and Sessions Judge’s court, said police.
"An accused has been killed by another accused of the same case. The attacker has been detained," said Cumilla district Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Nurul Islam.
Lawyer of the case Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Nurul Islam said: "Both of them were accused in a case filed over the murder of Haji Abdul Karim in Manoharganj upazila in 2013. The accused persons, on bail, appeared before the court on Monday for a hearing."
"Hasan (accused No 8) started chasing Faruk (accused No 4) with a knife while they were entering the court. At one point, Hasan stabbed Faruk indiscriminately as the latter rushed into the judge's room in a bid to save his life."
Faruk was severely injured and taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where the doctor declared him dead, the lawyer added.
Following the incident, Judge Fatema Ferdous told media: "An accused has been killed in front me. I myself could have been attacked. Are we safe in any place?"
