Ashulia police OC Javed Masud told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday (May 28) that the culprits confessed to this during preliminary interrogation while in remand.
Police have arrested five people- Md Sajib Hawladar, 28, Mamun Islam, 22, Nure Alam, 25, Habib, 20 and the victim’s step-father Taijul Islam, 40 in connection with the incident.
“One of the accused, Mamun, used to regularly visit the victim’s step-father at her house,” said OC Javed quoting Taijul’s confessional statement.
He added that Mamun used to help out Taijul with money from time to time.
“He [Taijul] helped the perpetrators who gang-raped his step-daughter to abduct her due to his greed for money,” said the OC.
The perpetrators are on one-day remand at Ashulia police station right now, he added.
The victim was abducted on the way to her home at Kathgora when she was returning from her aunt’s residence on May 25.
Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector Fajikul Islam said: "The perpetrators were aided by Taijul and Sajib, the caretaker of her aunt’s house, in the victim's abduction.”
He said they took her to an abandoned house—where the other three perpetrators who raped her were waiting.
The victim herself filed a case with the Ashulia police station in regard to the incident the next day. Therefore, police conducted a drive in different parts of Ashulia and arrested the five perpetrators on Monday (May 27).
Later, they were produced before the court, which has ordered one-day remand for the culprits.
