Shakib Khan and Opu Biswas (Left), Izazul Huq (Right).Habiganj auto-rickshaw driver, Izazul Huq has asked for a revision of a magistrate order, which gave actor Shakib Khan a reprieve from a defamation case.
On Sunday, the revision was submitted at the Habiganj Court. After hearing statements from the lawyers, the presiding judge, Amjad Hossain, accepted the revision and demanded the main report from the lower court.
Advocate M A Majid, counsel for the complainant, confirmed the revision, saying: “it’s not clear on what grounds actor Shakib Khan was given a reprieve.”
Usually a re-investigation is ordered if an ‘objection’ is filed against a case report.
In the Shakib Khan case, lower court magistrate, Shompa Jahan, did not order a re-investigation after accepting the objection.
“This is tantamount to depriving the complainant from justice.”
Relevant to note, on October 29 last, auto-rickshaw driver, Izazul Huq, lodged a Tk 50 lakh defamation case against Shakib Khan, who used Izazul’s mobile number in a film without prior permission.
Earlier, Izazul also filed a general diary at the Baniachong thana against producer Ashfaq Ahmed.
A phone number given in the film Rajneeti by the noted actor Shakib Khan to the actress turned out to be the real life mobile number belonging to Izazul.
Later, Izazul was overwhelmed by phone calls from people claiming to be Shakib Khan fans.
He claimed that at one point, he had to receive 800 calls a day.
Since many of the callers turned out to be female fans of Shakib, Izazul’s wife became infuriated and left him with their 16 month old baby.
The woes compounded for Izazul when, under a deluge of back to back calls from fans, the owner of his auto-rickshaw could not reach him, eventually terminating his job.
Facing a two pronged predicament, Izazul fled the case.
