Four given death in absentia over Narayanganj rape-murder case

Representational imageA Narayanganj court, on Monday, sentenced four friends to death for raping and killing 10-year-old Khadija. Narayanganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Court Judge Jewel Rana announced the verdict.
The four convicts: Sujon, Alamin, Abul Kalam, Shahadat are all fugitives from justice, said the state prosecutor Rokib Uddin.
According to the case detail, Khadija was murdered following rape in a mustard field in Alirtek area of the city on Jan 13, 2003. The following morning, relatives recovered Khadija’s body.
Victim’s elder brother, Ansar Ali, filed a murder case with Narayanganj police. The investigation officer of the case said that the court took statements from five among 17 witnesses.
Khadija’s autopsy report says that she was strangled after being violated, the officer added.
