‘Criminal’ killed in ‘shootout’ at Bogura

Rafid Anam Swarga An alleged criminal was killed in Bogura in what the police described as a shootout.
The deceased, identified by locals as twenty-five-year old Rafid Anam Swarga was allegedly killed during a shootout with rivals at the Sadar upazila on Thursday (Apr 17) night, says police.
“A police patrol team reached the scene when they heard gunshots,” said Bogura Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of police Shanatan Chakrabarty.
He added that they fled sensing police presence after which police recovered one person who was critically injured.
Chakrabarty said that he and Sadar police OC Badiuzzaman took Rafid to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
According to the police, they seized a 7.62 calibre gun and a Burmese knife from the scene.
They said that there were has seven cases of murder, extortion and arms dealing against Rafid iwith different police stations.
Locals say that he got out on bail and became active in social work, claiming to mend his ways.
