The police have arrested a student who allegedly poured kerosene on Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested Kamrun Nahar Moni, Nusrat’s classmate on Tuesday (Apr 16) in front of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa.
“The student has been arrested on suspicions that she poured kerosene on Nusrat. She is being interrogated,” PBI Additional Superintendent Moniruzzaman told Bangla Tribune.
The prime suspect in the case Nur Uddin on Sunday (Apr 14) confessed that one Umme Sultana Poppy called Nusrat on the roof where she was set on fire while Kamrun Nahar Moni poured kerosene on her.
PBI has so far arrested 15 people over the arson attack which killed 19-year-old Nusrat, an Alim exam candidate.
She was set on fire on Apr 6, the day of her Alim exam, for refusing to lift sexual assault charges against madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula.
Nusrat died of extensive burn injuries on Apr 10 at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn Unit.
A Feni court granted the police seven days to grill Siraj, 55, who was already in jail after Nusrat’s parents filed a case against him. Another suspect, Javed Hossain has also been subjected to a seven-day remand.
According to PBI, the perpetrators carried out the fatal attack on her at the principal’s behest.
The court has also remanded Awami League leader and Ward Councillor Maksudur Alam, 45 Kefayet Ullah, 32, Nusrat’s classmate and Siraj’s niece Umme Sultana Poppy alias Shompa, 18, Nur Uddin, 19, Nur Hossain, 21, Shahidul Islam, 19, Jobayer Ahmed, 21 and Arifur Islam, 19, , English teacher of the madrasa Afsar Uddin and Alauddin for five days.
Nur Uddin and Shahadat Hossain Shamim have already confessed to the police.
