Myanmar police detain four Bangladeshi fishermen

Representational imageMyanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) has reportedly picked up four fishermen from the Naf river — near Shah Parir Island — in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The BGP members also took the trawler, which was carrying the Bangladeshi fishermen.
The families of the fishermen claimed they [the fishermen] were abducted from the Naf River around 8am on Tuesday (Apr 16).
The fishermen are: Mohammad Abdullah, Azim Ullah, Abul Kalam, and Mohammad Hasan.
Union Parishad member Md Fazlul Haque said, “The four fishermen took the trawler to the Naf river to catch fish. Members of Myanmar BGP came near their trawler via speedboat and abducted them at gunpoint.”
Teknaf BGB-2 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Hasan Khan confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
The Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) official said: “We have heard about the incident. We are looking into the matter.”
