‘Drug peddler’ killed in Jashore 'shootout'

An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Jashore in what the police described as a shootout.

The incident was reported from the district's Kholadanga area around 4am on Wednesday (Mar 6), said police.

The deceased is yet to be identified.

“We received a tip-off that two groups of drug peddler were engaged in a shootout at Kholadanga area. We conducted a raid in the area and sensing the presence of law enforcers the drug peddlers escaped from the scene,” said Cosba police Inspector Shihabur Rahman.

“A bullet-ridden body was found at the scene and it was taken to Jashore General Hospital,” said Rahman.

“A pistol, one round of ammunition and 50 yaba tablets were seized from the scene during the drive,” he added.

Ahmed Tareque Shams, doctor at Jessore General Hospital, said, “The man died before he was brought to the hospital.”
