TeknafBorder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 14 Rohingyas who were attempting to illegally cross the border to Myanmar.

The 14 Rohingyas, including women and children, were detained on Saturday (Feb 16) morning, said Teknaf-2 BGB battalion Commander Lt Col Asaduzzaman Chowdhury.

According to BGB sources, the border guard force conducted a raid on a tip-off that a number of Rohingyas have flocked at the Shah Porir Dwip border of Teknaf in the early hours of Saturday. Members of BGB detained the 14 Rohingyas who had in their possession identification cards indicating they were sheltered in various camps in Cox’s Bazar.

“During preliminary questioning, the 14 Rohingyas admitted that they were attempting to go to Myanmar,” said Chowdhury before adding that the matter will be further looked into.
