Satkhira farmers are exporting Mango to European market to fetch more profit.
A total of 84 farmers in the district were selected to produce the fruits which would be exported to different countries in Europe.
One such farmer Jahangir Alam said, “I don’t use hazardous chemical on mangoes and eventually I get good export price.”
This is the fourth year Alam is sending fruits to the European countries. On Saturday, Alam sent four tonnes of mangoes to Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain.
He said, Satkhira agriculture extension department [AED] and a private-entity Uttaran help the farmers to maintain hygienic farming.
In the local market, a maund [37 kg] of mangoes is being sold at Tk 2200 while the export price of the same quantity is about Tk 3200.
The farmers hope to get fair price this year, Agriculturist Mohammad Mohsin said adding, “We had some marketing problem last year but we solved it this time.”
Satkhira AED official Abdul Mannan said, “A total of 200 tonnes of different varieties of mango including Amropali, Langra, Himsagor would be exported to Europe.”
Fourteen companies including Islam Enterprises, NR Enterprises and NH enterprises are buying mangoes for export.
