All highways will be repaired by Jun 8: Govt

Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader visits the progress of works on four-lane highway in Gazipur’s Chandra on Saturday.With heavy rush expected on highways mid next month as Eid holidaymakers across the country will travel to their hometowns, the government has ordered finishing all kind of repairs by the first week of June.
“Engineers have been instructed to complete the renovation of highways by Jun 8. The four-lane highway in Gazipur’s Chandra will have to complete by then also,” Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader said on Saturday.
Plying of all heavy vehicles, except passenger buses and those carrying export items and food, on national highways during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays will remain banned, he said
The heavy vehicles would not be allowed to ply on the highways three days prior to and following the Eid day, said the minister.
“The decision comes to ensure safe and gridlock-free travel of the homebound vacationers,” he told the media in Gazipur after visiting the Chandra Highway construction project.
Quader also held a meeting with officials from the administration, roads and highways division as well as law-enforcing agencies over the highway rush during the Eid holidays.
