BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. FILE PHOTOThe court has once again deferred the bail hearing of BNP chief Khaleda Zia in the Cumilla arson case.
District & Sessions Judge Md Ali Akbar gave the order on Wednesday (Jan 16).
The next hearing date for the case has been set to Feb 4, confirmed Khaleda’s counsel Kaimul Hoque Rinku.
Rinku said that the court was supposed to frame charges against Khaleda as well as hear her bail plea on Jan 7.
However, the hearing was deferred to Jan 16 due to the judge not being present, he said.
The former prime minister stands accused of ordering the firebombing of a bus in Cumilla during a countrywide blockade of roads, railway and waterways in 2015.
The attack left eight people dead and another 22 injured.
Khaleda is currently serving a 10-year term in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case in and is also being tried in the Naiko graft case.
