RMG workers-police clash leaves 30 injured in Ashulia

The workers and police clashed when police fired tear shells and blank shots to disperse the workers on Thursday (Jan 10).At least 30 people have been injured in a clash between ready-made garment (RMG) workers and police at Baran area in Ashulia, Savar.

Apparel workers took to the streets for the fifth day demanding changes to the newly-announced wage structure, blocking several roads including Baipail-Abdullahpur Highway and the Zirabo-Bismail road.
Police baton charged the workers to disperse them. In retaliation, the RMG workers hurled brickbats at the law enforcing men.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in the area.
The workers and police clashed when police fired tear shells and blank shots to disperse the workers on Thursday (Jan 10).On Wednesday, 30 people were injured in a similar clash between RMG factory workers and police in Savar.
On Tuesday (Jan 7), a similar clash left one dead at the area. Moreover 32 workers were injured in several clashed and amongst them three were shot.
Workers of several garment factories have been protesting in Savar, and different parts of the capital since Sunday (Jan 6); demanding the discrepancies of the newly-announced wage structure be removed.
