The Election Commission will deploy troops as a strike force for the national polls from Dec 24.
“The Commission has decided to deploy army from Dec 24, who will remain in the field until Jan 2,” EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told the media on Thursday (Dec 13).
Responding to a query, he said that the Commission has initially decided to deploy the Border Guard Bangladesh troops from Dec 22.
“The matter will be finalised on Saturday (Dec 15),” added Secretary Ahmed.
Earlier in the day, the Commission held a meeting with representatives of law enforcement and intelligence agencies at its offices in the capital’s Agargaon.
On Wednesday, Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam said troops will be deployed as a strike force across the country five days before the election.
