Superintendent of Police Shamsunnahar cited warrants in seven cases with different police stations in Dhaka metropolitan areas for the move.
The BNP organising secretary for Dhaka division was arrested by the detective branch from his Bartul Village residence at the district’s Kaliganj Upazila around 3pm on Thursday (Dec 13).
Milon's lawyer Parvin Akhter said that the BNP candidate was holding a meeting of party workers at his residence when he was arrested.
“At least 300 supporters were attending the meeting. Around 11am, a member of the police’s special branch arrived there to confirm his location. Later, at least 30 police personnel in five vehicles arrived at the scene,” she said.
The law enforcers chased away the supporters who had gathered for the meeting before Detective Branch members entered Milon’s house, according to Akhter.
“They dragged Fazlul Haque Milion out of the house before whisking him away in a car. The police did not respond to our repeated requests for the cause of the arrest,” she added.
