BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam AlamgirBNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that they have become helpless as they decided to contest the upcoming general election.

“The Awami League previously said that we didn’t participate in the polls. However, we are taking part in this election, but we are not being allowed to carry out pre-polls activities. We have become totally helpless,” he told the media on 10pm Thursday (Dec 13) at the Thakurgaon press club.

“Uncertainty looms over a free, fair and participatory election,” said Alamgir before adding, “A fair election is what we need the most.”

Alleging the government of using state mechanism to serve their purpose, the senior BNP leader said, “the phantom cases filed against our party activists are pre-planned so that they can say those are criminal cases and there is nothing they can do.”

On the Election Commission, he said, “If they feel embarrassed, then the whole nation will feel the same as they are the highest polls-time authority.”

“The whole nation has become embarrassed,” added Alamgir.
